Up the Road

Showers, gales and summertime traffic deters many a good trip out in the Morgan this month.

This afternoon I was trying to catch the light on the ripening cornfield nearby but even that was cut short by a rain shower.

Now looking forward to Sidmouth Folk Festival starting Friday 31st July come rain or shine...

What a difference a day makes - Here we are at Dartmouth, enjoying , diet coke and tea. A new footpath steps down to the secluded cove below the castle.

Dartmouth Castle

Torcross felt warmer than Dartmouth as the sun shone through at last. Helen and me enjoyed fish and chips at the Start Bay Inn.  Many more swans than usual appear on Slapton Ley and I guess there were at least 50 to be seen on the water.

The annual gathering of all things to do with the road include some well turned out Morgans from the Berrybrook Garage.

At the Powderham Castle site the carnival atmosphere generated by so many rare motors and steam vehicles is always enjoyed by us villagers.  Plenty of stallholders have motor jumble on offer, others have the usual market traders' selections and catering vans are in attendance.

Sunday dawns damp under foot with a prospect of the occasional passing shower. Armed with a brolly and waterproof shoes it's still worth a visit.

Morgan maintenance

With approximately 6,750 miles on the clock, the vendor of my 4/4 handed me the service sheet and mention was made there of a trace of oil at the rear of the engine. Latterly the presence of a slight oil leak issuing from the bell housing vent indicated a rear seal failure.
Prolonged periods unused in storage may have resulted in the seal adhering to the crankshaft. Not something that should occur during normal usage.

Job now done by the Exminster Garage; the first time I have had to release the 4/4 into the hands of a true mechanic apart from the annual M.O.T.
At the same time the clutch slave was showing signs of a leak developing and that too has now been replaced.  Perished water tube also replaced along with windscreen wiper blades (by me) and all ready for the road once more. Mileage at 7/7/2015 is 42,500.
